Frequently Asked Questions
What does neck lift surgery involve?
The “extended neck lift” as described above requires a small incision under the chin through which excess fat can be removed and the deep tissue trimmed and supported. You also need an incision around the earlobe extending in the groove behind the ear into the hairline so the jawline can be tightened and excess skin removed.
What is the recovery process and after care?
This is discussed in the article on face lifts but essentially after ten days there should be minimal bruising in the neck easily covered by a polo neck or scarf.
What do lower neck lift procedures consist of?
- Liposuction under the chin is only suitable for young people with tight skin.
- Tightening under the chin only but not removing excess skin.
- The zplasty – removing excess skin under the chin and tightening the deep tissue. This can give a good result but leaves a zigzag scar under the chin and above the larynx. It is often favoured by more senior men but can give an unnatural look in women because of their loose jowls.
- Suture suspension techniques. Many have been tried but they only give a temporary improvement if any.
